With football season upon us, it’s time to think about…mouth guards! We know you thought we were going to say words like good times, fall weather, last-minute touchdowns, friendly wagers, and fun – gotcha 🙂 While we’re not sure who doesn’t enjoy some aspect of fall football season in south, our job at Fulp Family Dentistry is to make sure people have healthy, beautiful smiles – and for football players, along with many other people who participate in other contact sports, mouth guards are essential to protecting your teeth.
If you or your child participates in contact sports such as football, here are the three basic types of mouth guards: ready-made; boil-and-bite, and custom-made. All properly fitted mouth guards provide certain levels of protection; when considering what to purchase, for a mouth guard to provide effective protection it should be resilient, tear-resistant, comfortable and, of course, it should fit properly. The American Dental Association estimates a full one third of all dental injuries are sports-related – a good mouth guard can go a long way towards protecting those pearly whites!
Dr. Scott Fulp, Dr. Nicole Fulp and the team at Fulp Family Dentistry recommends mouth guards for everyone who participates in contact sports. If you have any questions, please contact our office for more information about mouth guards and protecting your teeth during contact sports.
