A dental implant is a permanent tooth replacement option; implants are a great tooth restoration option for people who are missing one or more teeth for reasons like injury or periodontal disease. Implants are stronger than natural teeth and can last a lifetime with good care; they are also a more favorable approach than bridgework, because they do not depend on neighboring teeth for support. Patients at Fulp Family Dentistry in Tifton enjoying knowing their implants are permanent, function really well, and look great.
Dental implants do require healthy gums and adequate bone – and, the patient must be committed to excellent oral hygiene and regular dental visits, as these are critical to the long-term success of dental implants.
A dental implant procedure consists of two stages: installation of the root implant, followed by completion with a replacement crown. The duration of the procedure is variable, largely because healing is often required in between steps of the procedure.
While Dr. Nicole Fulp and Dr. Scott Fulp note that each implant patient is different, most commonly, the crown is fitted several months after implant placement, allowing the implant time to fuse with the jawbone.
