Dr. Nicole Answers: “What’s the best thing I can do to keep my teeth healthy?”

Keeping teeth healthy is extremely important, and actually not that hard!  Adults over 35 lose more teeth to gum disease (periodontal disease) than from cavities. Three out of four adults are affected at some time in their life. Periodontal disease and decay are both caused by bacterial plaque. Plaque is a colorless film that constantly forms on your teeth. The best way to prevent cavities and periodontal disease is by good, daily tooth brushing and flossing techniques.

“The very best thing anyone can do for dental care is easy – just take about 2 minutes, twice a day, to gently brush your teeth with a soft toothbrush using this formula: brush the top teeth front, inside and surface for about a minute; then, brush the bottom teeth on the front, inside and top surface; add a few seconds to brush your tongue. Allow another minute to floss one time a day and your teeth will be their very best!” – Dr. Nicole Fulp, Fulp Family Dentistry.
